How Kids Grow: The Value Creation Cycle

The book's core idea, in one loop. Kids don't grow by having struggle removed — they grow by working through the right struggles, with you as their anchor.

1
Healthy StruggleA challenge worth taking on
2
New CapabilityA real skill, earned
3
ConfidenceProof they can do hard things
4
Value CreationUsing it to help others
One stage a month

Eight stages follow the school year, September through May. Each holds 4–7 short activities.

Pick what fits

You don't need to do everything. Choose the activities that fit your family this month — order helps, but isn't required.

Make it yours

Every activity ends in a conversation. The talking matters more than the checklist.

☕ Bonus for Parents: Fun Date / Fact Date

One tip from the book just for the grown-ups. Date nights get ruined when the budget, a kid problem, or a job frustration crashes in. Decide beforehand which kind of night it is: a Fun Date (no issues, no calendars — just fun) or a Fact Date (planning and decisions, on purpose). No phones either way.
